Today’s goal is to fully practice Korean phrases for asking directions in real-life situations.
For beginners, the best strategy is simple:
short sentence + clear pronunciation + polite ending.
You will master 6 core skills:
- Ask where a destination is
- Understand direction words (left/right/straight)
- Ask about distance and time
- Ask people to repeat slowly
- Understand crossing/turning/intersection instructions
- End politely with thanks
Start with these 6 must-know lines:
- “저기요, ○○역 어디예요?” (Excuse me, where is ○○ Station?)
- “여기에서 어떻게 가요?” (How do I get there from here?)
- “왼쪽이에요? 오른쪽이에요?” (Is it left or right?)
- “직진하면 돼요?” (Should I go straight?)
- “걸어서 몇 분이에요?” (How many minutes on foot?)
- “감사합니다.” (Thank you.)
Essential Vocabulary for Directions

Quick correction rules:
- Questions: -요?
- Requests: -해 주세요
- Confirmation: ~맞죠? / ~이죠?
Pronunciation and Listening Tips
- 왼쪽 / 오른쪽
They can sound similar when spoken fast.
If unsure, ask again: “왼쪽이요, 오른쪽이요?” - 직진
Often comes with “쭉 가세요” (go straight ahead).
Remember as one set: 직진 = keep going straight. - -에서 vs -으로
-에서 = starting point / location
-으로 = direction / movement - Numbers + 분 / 출구 번호
Train your ear for numbers:
2분, 5분, 10분 / 1번, 2번, 4번 출구.
