Korean Restaurant Ordering Phrases
Today’s lesson has one practical target: survive a real restaurant situation in Korean.
You only need these 4 skills:
- Read key menu words
- Order politely and clearly
- Make extra requests (water, small plate, less spicy, no cilantro, etc.)
- Ask for payment
At beginner level, short and accurate is better than long and complex.
Memorize these 4 lines first:
- “이거 주세요.” (Please give me this.)
- “비빔밥 하나 주세요.” (One bibimbap, please.)
- “덜 맵게 해 주세요.” (Please make it less spicy.)
- “계산해 주세요.” (Please give me the bill.)
Menu Words You Will See Often
If you know these words, menu reading becomes much easier.
- 추천 메뉴 = recommended menu
- 인기 메뉴 = popular menu
- 신메뉴 = new menu
- 1인분 / 2인분 = 1 serving / 2 servings
- 곱빼기 = extra portion
- 추가 = extra / add-on
- 사리 추가 = add noodles/rice cake/etc.
- 포장 = takeout
- 매운맛 / 순한맛 = spicy / mild
- 원산지 = ingredient origin
- 품절 = sold out
Food category words:
- 밥류 = rice dishes
- 면류 = noodle dishes
- 국/탕/찌개 = soup/stew

If you are not sure what to say, end with 주세요 or 해 주세요.
That alone sounds polite and natural.
